Caramelized Onion and Bacon Biscuits
Ingredients:
1/4 pound thick sliced bacon
3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup chilled butter
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup FIVE STAR CARAMELIZED ONION FLAVORMAK'R
1/4 cup reserved bacon fat
Directions:
Preheat over to 450F. Dice bacon and cook until crisp. Remove from pan with a
slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, reserve fat. Put sifted flour, baking
powder and baking soda into a food processor and pulse to blend. Cut butter into
small pieces, add to processor and pulse together until mixture resembles
cornmeal. Add bacon bits and pulse twice to mix. Whisk together the buttermilk
and CARAMELIZED ONION FLAVORMAK'R in a mixing bowl then whisk in
the warm bacon fat. Pour the milk mixture into the flour and process just until
mixture comes together into a ball. Put dough onto a floured board and roll out
until º inch thick. Cut biscuits out with a lightly floured 2‡ inch biscuit
cutter and
place on an ungreased baking sheet and bake until lightly browned, about 15 to
20 minutes.
This recipe produces approximately 18 biscuits.
